Lithuania’s Defence Resources Agency has signed a contract with Finnish company Forcit to buy its Blocker naval mine systems, the Defence Ministry said Wednesday, LRT reported.
“Naval mines are an important part of Lithuania’s defence, helping ensure security in the Baltic Sea. We are not the only ones buying this mine system, so we will coordinate our actions and ensure interoperability with allies,” Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said.
“The capability provided by naval mines further strengthens collective defence and deters the enemy,” he added.
The purchase is part of the Finnish-led Naval Mines Cooperation initiative, which aims to strengthen cooperation among European allies in acquiring and using naval mine systems. A framework agreement for cooperation under the initiative was signed in 2025.
The initiative seeks to enable joint purchases and deepen cooperation in logistics, training and exercises throughout the systems’ service life. Finland leads the joint procurement, and Forcit supplies the Blocker systems.
