Early voting in the Seimas by-election for the single-member Nalšia North constituency began Tuesday and will run through November 5, LRT reported, citing the Central Electoral Commission. Polling will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the municipalities of Ignalina, Visaginas and Zarasai. A total of 28,440 voters are eligible.

From November 4 to 6, voting will also be available at healthcare and social care institutions in the constituency. Election commission members will arrange home voting on November 6 and 7 for eligible voters with disabilities, people caring for them at home, those temporarily unable to work because of illness, and voters aged 70 or older.

Election day is November 8, when polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters must bring an identity document, such as a passport, identity card or driving licence.

Eleven candidates are standing: Ignotas Adomavičius, nominated by Nemuno Aušra; Giedrius Dainys of the Centre-Right Union; Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union member Gintautas Kindurys; Social Democrat Vladislavas Kondratovičius; Nikolajus Lebedevičius of the Lithuanian Regions Party; Freedom Party member Maksimas Paukštė; Mėta Paulauskė of the Liberal Movement; Antanas Šakalys, nominated by the Union of Democrats “For Lithuania”; Andrejus Šildiajevas of the Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats; Viktoras Voroninas of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania–Christian Families Alliance; and Dalia Štraupaitė of the Union of the Nation and Justice.

The by-election was called after Liberal Movement MP Jevgenijus Šuklinas, elected in the constituency in 2024, died in late May. The Central Electoral Commission revoked his parliamentary mandate in early June. Electoral law requires a by-election to be held within six months when an MP elected in a single-member constituency leaves office, unless less than a year remains before the next regular Seimas election.
