Riga municipal police, working with the State Police and State Security Service, have identified a young person suspected of twice climbing onto the cables of Vanšu Bridge in October and attaching foreign flags, LSM reported. The flags were believed to be those of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

The incidents took place on October 14 and 28. Police said the minor acted with hooligan motives.

Administrative offence proceedings have been launched over both incidents under Article 11 of the law on administrative penalties for violations of public administration, public order and the use of the state language.

Disrupting public order by violating generally accepted standards of behaviour and endangering one’s own safety or that of others can result in a warning or a fine of up to 500 euros.
