Priit Põldma and Mart Kangro will premiere their collaborative production Parody at Von Krahl Theatre on November 6, ERR reports. The production explores identity and the points where generations meet and clash.

The performers, aged 32 and 52, will examine their similarities and differences from both personal and generational perspectives. They will consider whether their views are truly individual or shaped by experiences including national awakening, war, stagnation, the arrival of freedom, the opening up of the world, terrorist attacks, the COVID-19 pandemic and artificial intelligence.

Their 20-year age difference could cast them as friends, father and son, or teacher and student. The production also considers how those relationships might take shape between two bodies on stage, and addresses ageing, growing up and the passage of time.

“I feel we are similar enough to work together and different enough to intrigue each other,” Põldma said. He said the two had developed in very different environments: Kangro came of age in the early years of Estonia’s regained independence, while Põldma was born then. The production process has involved exploring how those circumstances shaped them and how they see each other.

Their previous joint production was called Comedy. The artists say Parody will be darker and more serious. Heneliis Notton provides dramaturgical support, Anu Vahtra artistic support, and Kalle Tikas is responsible for sound, lighting and technical solutions, with support from Kristiina Tinnu Tang.
