Outgoing Health Minister Hosams Abu Meri has decided to leave the Vienotība party when the 14th Saeima’s term ends, LSM reported, citing a statement on his Facebook account.

Abu Meri said the decision was not easy but had been carefully considered. He thanked those he had worked with and said he believed the party needed a restart, new energy and new people. He added that regaining public trust required clear communication and concrete action.

After the election results were announced, Abu Meri said he had decided to take political responsibility and stepped down as chair of Vienotība’s council. He said he would continue working as a doctor and was ready to share his experience to help develop healthcare in Latvia.

A gastroenterologist, Abu Meri became health minister on September 15, 2023. He continued in the role in Andris Kulbergs’ government, approved by the Saeima on May 28, 2026. Abu Meri had chaired Vienotība’s council since 2019.
