Vivi completes naming of its 32 electric trains
Vivi has completed its campaign to name all 32 of its electric trains, with the final four named Lūsis, Dzenis, Kļava and Alnis, LSM reports.
The names mean lynx, woodpecker, maple and moose. The maple is known for its colourful autumn leaves and sweet sap in spring. The moose is Latvia’s largest wild herbivore, and males become especially active in autumn as they seek females. The woodpecker is commonly found and can be heard drumming throughout the year to find food, make nesting cavities and attract a mate. The lynx is Latvia’s only representative of the wild cat family; it is cautious and mainly active at dusk and at night, so is rarely seen in the wild.
The naming campaign began in April as a collaboration between Vivi and Latvijas Valsts meži, or Latvian State Forests. Experts from the state-owned company selected names reflecting Latvia’s natural diversity, with new names assigned each month.
The 32 trains are named Bite, Apodziņš, Priede, Egle, Zalktis, Mednis, Ērglis, Bērzs, Paparde, Ozols, Spāre, Stirna, Mellene, Gailene, Liepa, Kadiķis, Skudra, Lācis, Pupuķis, Cīrulis, Baravika, Briedis, Apse, Osis, Dzērvene, Brūklene, Zaķis, Dzilna, Lūsis, Dzenis, Kļava and Alnis.
