Estonian President Ülle Madise has proposed Oliver Kask for the post of chancellor of justice, ERR reported. The nomination will be considered by the Riigikogu, Estonia’s parliament.
Madise said Kask is a respected legal scholar with broad professional experience and that his impartiality and reliability are beyond question. She cited his expertise in constitutional law and the protection of fundamental rights, as well as his work as a judge and his election to the Supreme Court.
Kask graduated from the University of Tartu’s Faculty of Law. He worked at the Ministry of Justice and served as a judge at the Tallinn Circuit Court from 2004 to 2024, including as head of its administrative chamber. He has been a Supreme Court judge since September 2024.
Madise said she consulted representatives of parliamentary parties before proposing Kask. Her term as chancellor of justice ended on October 12, 2026, when she took office as president.
