Estonian band Traffic will compete in Eesti Laul, Estonia’s Eurovision selection contest, for the eighth time, ERR reported. The group’s entry this year is called “Laava”. “We still like going round on this carousel, and I think that’s what brought us back,” Robert Vaigla said.
The band describes the song as a very Traffic-style pop track. When they entered with “Wunderbar” three years ago, they tried to experiment and do something different, Vaigla said. “This song is more like us.”
The musicians hope their Estonian-language song will win over listeners at home and abroad. Eesti Laul has helped their songs get radio airplay, and clubs expect them to perform the tracks, said Joonas Mattias Sarapuu. Estonian-language music at the contest has also brought the band good results beyond the competition, he added.
Traffic will bring experience and a sense of freedom to the stage, Sarapuu said. After competing so many times, the stage feels familiar and they have less stage fright. “We know where we’re going, what we’re doing, and maybe we enjoy it more. We’re not so tense.”
