The Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) have named 57 candidates for mayor in upcoming local elections, LRT reported.

Party chairman Laurynas Kasčiūnas said the party focused on candidates’ experience and work in local government. Lithuania has 60 municipalities. TS-LKD plans to field candidates for municipal council elections in 58 of them.

The party will not nominate candidates in Šalčininkai or Visaginas. In Švenčionys, it plans to take part in the election with a municipal council candidate list.

Among its mayoral candidates in the largest municipalities are incumbent Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas, Šarūnas Jasiukevičius in Kaunas, Audrius Petrošius in Klaipėda and Ignas Gaižiūnas in Panevėžys.

On November 7 and 8, party members in local branches and branch meetings will rank the candidates on municipal council lists.
