Daniel Kõiv, who left his job as an adviser to Education Minister Kristina Kallas on Sunday, started a new, higher-paid role at the ministry on Monday, ERR reported.

Tartu Postimees reported that Kõiv is now a project manager in the Education and Research Ministry’s department for European Union and international cooperation. He will help prepare agreements on education, science and youth for a Ukraine reconstruction conference scheduled to take place in Tallinn next January.

“Broadly speaking, my task is to ensure that agreements are reached in the education sector that bring money or expertise to Ukraine,” Kõiv said.

Kõiv said the position was not created specifically for him. The ministry had been looking for someone for the project but had not found a suitable candidate for a job that was both large in scope and short-term. He decided to accept the offer.

Kõiv recently announced that he was leaving Eesti 200 to join the Social Democratic Party and would run in the parliamentary elections in Tartu. He is a member of Tartu City Council and studies political science at the University of Tartu.
