Tallinn has drawn up two plans for rebuilding Tulika Street, with either one lane in each direction or a 2+1 lane arrangement, and is seeking residents’ feedback, ERR reports.
The project covers Tulika Street, which connects the Kristiine traffic junction with the Sõle intersection, as well as a section of Paldiski maantee that crosses it. Both plans include new pavements, cycle paths and street greenery.
Deputy Mayor Kristjan Järvan said he and fellow deputy mayor Joel Jesse had reviewed a traffic study and considered the 2+1 option better. Järvan said the street could not accommodate a 1+1 layout and that their firm preference was for a 1+2 solution. The city has not made a final decision and will take residents’ feedback into account.
The reconstruction would also upgrade water and sewer infrastructure, add a separate stormwater drainage system and improve street lighting. Plans will take account of mature trees and buildings along the street that have environmental value.
Residents can submit feedback on either plan until November 10. The city will consider proposals while preparing the detailed design, taking technical and spatial constraints and the budget into account.
