About 3,000 soldiers and 1,000 pieces of military equipment will take part in what NATO’s Multinational Brigade in Latvia describes as its largest force deployment exercise to date, LSM reported. The exercise, Resolute Reforger 2026, runs from October 26 to November 8.

From October 26 to November 2, troops and equipment will travel by road and rail from the Ādaži and Ceri military bases to exercise locations in eastern Latvia. Activities are planned in Ogres, Jēkabpils, Aizkraukles, Daugavpils, Alūksnes, Balvu, Gulbenes, Madonas, Rēzeknes and Augšdaugavas municipalities, as well as the city of Rēzekne.

The brigade’s units will practise deployment, logistics, command and communications, and coordination with Latvia’s National Armed Forces. The exercise is intended to test the brigade’s ability to move, supply and coordinate units over long distances.

Brigade commander Colonel David Brasard told LTV’s Rīta Panorāma programme that soldiers test their communications and ability to sustain themselves two or three times a year. He said the exercise also gives them an opportunity to communicate with residents, particularly in Latgale.

From November 4 to 8, units will clear the exercise areas and return to their bases. Brasard said most military vehicles would travel by road at night to reduce traffic disruption. He urged residents who see soldiers and vehicles to be careful and keep their distance, while also being welcoming and friendly.
