A photo-orienteering game in Riga invited residents to learn how to prepare for emergencies and support women serving in Ukraine’s armed forces, LSM reported. Participants could test their knowledge of civil protection, from finding a shelter and packing a 72-hour emergency bag to making a family response plan.

The “Safe Riga” route began at the square by the Riga Congress House. At five themed stops, participants learned practical skills for crisis situations. They could also help make a camouflage net by weaving in pieces of fabric they had brought; the finished net will be sent to Ukraine.

At the National Opera, representatives of the association Sievietes aizsardzībai Skudras helped participants develop plans for family action and mutual support during emergencies. Association founder and board member Gundega Grīnberga said families should discuss in advance how they would stay in touch if mobile phone networks failed, where they would meet, whether they follow the two-wall principle at home and whether they have enough essential medication.

Event initiator Antoņina Blodone, head of Sievietes aizsardzībai Skudras, said crisis preparedness begins with individuals, not only emergency services and the state. The event also aimed to build public understanding of civil protection and readiness for emergencies.
