Bronius Markauskas seeks third term as Klaipėda district mayor

Klaipėda district Mayor Bronius Markauskas will seek re-election in 2027, LRT reported. The Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union representative announced his decision on Saturday.

Markauskas, who has been elected mayor since 2019, said he had decided to run again after considering whether to stand in the upcoming local elections. A third term would allow him to continue work on projects he said remain unfinished.

He said his team had set a vision and direction for the district in 2019, continued earlier projects during its second term and prepared new ones. Markauskas said the district had changed significantly under his leadership and that, if re-elected, his team would seek to address issues that had gone unresolved for decades.

The local elections are scheduled for March 7, 2027.
