Klaipėda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus will run in the upcoming municipal elections, seeking a second term, LRT reported. He announced his decision on Facebook.
Vaitkus said he decided to stand again because he wants to complete work already under way in the city. He said some long-standing issues had begun to move forward during his current term, while other decisions were already visible in Klaipėda or still being implemented.
“The work we have started should not be left halfway done, but completed,” he wrote. He added that the city must continue addressing infrastructure needs while paying more attention to quality of life, economic opportunities, education, culture, the city’s vitality and its ability to retain residents.
Direct elections for mayors and municipal council members are scheduled for March 7, 2027.
