Former Vilkaviškis deputy mayor Bernardas Marčiukonis dies

Bernardas Marčiukonis, a longtime leader in the Vilkaviškis region and former deputy mayor, has died aged 74, LRT reports, citing the Vilkaviškis District Municipality. He died on October 20.

Marčiukonis was also a politician and former director of the Vilkaviškis District Municipality administration. He spent many years leading the company Vilkaviškio vandenys before moving to work for the municipality, the municipality said.

Colleagues and associates remembered him as principled, responsible and dedicated to his work.

Mourners can pay their respects on October 23 from 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel of Vilkaviškis Cathedral. A Mass will be held on October 24 at 9 a.m., followed by a departure at 2 p.m. for Šventežeris Cemetery.
