Latvia’s cybersecurity response agency CERT.lv had not recorded any successful attacks on important state resources linked to a global software vulnerability by late Wednesday, LSM reported.
CERT.lv deputy head Varis Teivāns said artificial intelligence bots were attempting attacks, but none had succeeded. He said attacks on less critical resources could not be ruled out. Cybersecurity expert Strazdiņš praised the authorities for acting quickly.
Access to many websites was restricted as officials responded to the vulnerability. By late Wednesday, fewer than 20 state-important online resources remained completely inaccessible. Access had been restored in many cases for people connecting from Latvia, though some websites in certain sectors could remain unavailable longer.
Teivāns said the vulnerability affects millions of online resources worldwide and several hundred in Latvia, including government websites, online shops and customer portals. The issue involves PHP, a widely used web programming technology that supports government information systems and businesses’ websites and services.
He said agencies had identified potentially affected resources in Latvia and prioritised state data registers, critical infrastructure operators and public-sector institutions. Teivāns described the response as an effort to prevent a crisis, saying no incident had occurred.
