Jewellery artist Julia Maria Künnap is presenting works shaped by the interplay of stone and light in her solo exhibition “A Question of Perception” at the Museum of Applied Art and Design’s gallery, ERR reported. The reflective patterns in the stones draw on musical effects.

“I work with classical jewellery materials, such as transparent gemstones and precious metals,” Künnap said. “The shift lies in using classical techniques in new ways to create jewellery that reflects our present time.”

The exhibition includes “Brushstrokes”, which won the Hoffmann Prize in 2017, as well as works made this year as part of Künnap’s doctoral research. She is exploring how faceting can be combined with free engraving in gemstone cutting.

Künnap said stone was almost eternal compared with human life, while the light revealed through its shaping lasted only an instant. The exhibition is open until January 24.
