Florist says flower-filled pumpkins brighten dark autumn days
Flower-decorated pumpkins can bring light, colour and cheer into the home during darker days, florist school director Inno Joonas said on the ERR television programme Terevisioon.
Joonas recommended cutting off the top of a pumpkin and scooping out its soft centre with a tablespoon. To arrange flowers inside, line the pumpkin with a plastic bag and add floral foam. Moss is an alternative: clean it of forest debris and press it together before using it.
Long wooden skewers can raise the pumpkin’s lid for a more striking look. For extra decoration, Joonas suggested spray paint and pearl necklaces. For Halloween, he said, bold colours and expressive details work well.
Flowers can also be placed in a bucket of water or a glass container inside the pumpkin. Joonas said a decorated pumpkin could make a gift for children who come to the door asking for treats.
