Estonian President Ülle Madise will visit Lithuania on Wednesday for a working visit, LRT reported, citing the Lithuanian president’s office. She is due to meet Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.

The two leaders will discuss bilateral relations, regional security and defence, support for Ukraine, Lithuania’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union and other current issues.

Madise was elected president on September 2 and took office last week, succeeding Alar Karis, who chose not to seek a second five-year term. She is Estonia’s sixth head of state since the restoration of independence in 1991 and its second woman president, after Kersti Kaljulaid, who held the office from 2016 to 2021. The Estonian president’s role is largely representative.
