Lithuania’s Supreme Court has refused to accept an appeal from Gediminas Filipavičius, who is serving a prison sentence for kidnapping a girl and other crimes, LRT reported Monday.

The appeal was received by the court on Friday. Filipavičius challenged his sentence and asked for the case to be reopened, but the court said his filing did not meet requirements for its form and content and did not clearly state the grounds for appealing to the Supreme Court. The ruling cannot be appealed.

In April, a court sentenced Filipavičius to 12 years in prison for 13 crimes, including rape, sexual assault, compelling someone to have sexual intercourse and unlawful deprivation of liberty. Combined with the sentence previously imposed in the kidnapping case, he must serve 20 years.

In a separate case, Kaunas Regional Court sentenced him last October to 20 years in prison for kidnapping a nine-year-old girl and other crimes. The prison terms are not added together. Twenty years is the longest fixed-term prison sentence allowed by law.
