Riga, roadworks, traffic

Riga will close the exit from Vanšu Bridge to Castle Square to traffic from October 19 to 28 during reconstruction work on Tower Street, LSM reported.

The section of Castle Square between Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street and Tower Street will also be closed to vehicles during that period. Pedestrian movement there will be restricted, as will traffic at the junction of Castle Square and Tower Street.

From October 19 to November 6, the junction at Castle Square near the Bank of Latvia will be partially closed while engineering network work is carried out. Crews will close one side of the junction at a time, and traffic will be diverted along nearby Noliktavas Street.

The work is part of the second phase of reconstruction at the Arsenāls art museum and the refurbishment of Tower Street and its junctions. Drivers are advised to plan alternative routes, allow extra travel time and follow road signs and traffic changes.

The Tower Street reconstruction and improvements are expected to be completed by next summer, when the renovated street is due to reopen.
