Lithuania’s Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) have nominated Member of Parliament Audrius Petrošius to run for mayor of the port city of Klaipėda, LRT reported.

Petrošius was unanimously approved as the party’s candidate at a general election meeting of the TS-LKD Klaipėda branch on Saturday, the party said.

He said he understood the problems preventing Klaipėda from reaching its full potential and knew how to address them. He also said he was bringing a highly competent team.

“It is necessary not only to deal with hygiene-related problems, which are unquestionable and must be addressed by every city leader or city council representative, but also to have the ambition to lift the city to an entirely different level, whether in culture, education, comfortable living or any other respect,” Petrošius said. He added that the city should attract young people and families and invite people to create and fulfil their potential, as well as be comfortable for older residents.

Petrošius has been a member of parliament since 2020. From 2019 to 2020, he served on the Klaipėda municipal council. Direct elections for mayors and municipal councils are scheduled for spring 2027.
