Ventspils rents all 60 new homes as Kurzeme plans nearly 400
All 60 apartments in Ventspils’ new low-rent housing project have been rented, and waiting lists are forming, LSM reports. Nearly 400 more rental homes are planned across Kurzeme in the coming years.
Two apartment buildings on Saules Street in Ventspils were built with support from the Altum financial institution. Residents have praised the homes and their surroundings, though there is a shortage of larger four-room apartments.
Resident Māra said the fenced grounds give children a safe place to play outdoors. Her husband, Uldis, also praised the well-kept surroundings.
Low-rent housing projects have already been completed in Tukums municipality, Sēme and Ventspils. Construction is continuing in Liepāja, where more than 250 apartments are planned.
Funding for the programme has been exhausted, but municipalities and developers remain interested. Authorities are seeking ways to reallocate available European Union funding for further projects.
