Artist Marta Vaarik says she is glad to be back in theatre and to have paid work between social projects. She is designing costumes for a production directed by her father, actor and director Andrus Vaarik, ERR reported.

Endla Theatre will premiere “Money Flood” next Saturday. Andrus Vaarik said he agreed to direct the comedy after a planned project led by Marta Aliide Jakovski was unexpectedly cancelled and the theatre asked him to take on a comedy. He is staging Cooney’s play again, 22 years after it was performed at Draamateater.

Marta Vaarik said she had not worked as a costume designer before and described herself as an amateur. She has been searching through the theatre’s storerooms and working with its seamstresses. With a week to go before the production is ready, she said she felt anxious but believed there was still time.

Andrus Vaarik said their working relationship had gone very well. He praised his daughter’s clear vision and said she listens to the actors while remaining firm about her ideas.

Marta Vaarik, who trained as a painter, said she enjoys working as part of a larger team. She has also worked on a large exhibition at Kumu, which remains open, and said her work often takes her from one institution to another.
