Conservative Kęstutis Masiulis took the oath of office in parliament on Thursday, returning to the legislature in place of fellow party member Agnė Bilotaitė, who announced last week that she was stepping down, LRT reported.
Masiulis has served in parliament for 16 years: in 2004 and from 2008 to 2024. His mandate began after Bilotaitė’s ended on Wednesday.
Masiulis studied physics at Vilnius University, worked at research institutes and taught at several Lithuanian universities. He also headed the Faculty of State Governance and the Department of Public Administration at the Lithuanian University of Law.
His previous roles include adviser to the director general of the State Security Department, government consultant, adviser to the prime minister and deputy mayor of Vilnius. He has belonged to the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats since 2003.
Bilotaitė said she was leaving parliament for personal reasons. Although she is stepping away from active politics, she will remain a member of the party.
