Latvia will return to a 90 km/h speed limit on its highways from Thursday, October 15, with the Vidzeme highway between Riga and Sigulda retaining a higher limit in good driving conditions, LSM reported.

Latvian State Roads said seasonal speed limits are changing as weather becomes more variable and winter approaches. Road signs will be replaced during the day on October 15. Signs on the Ķekava bypass are due to be changed overnight from October 15 to 16.

On the Vidzeme highway, the maximum speed will remain 100 km/h in good conditions during autumn and winter, managed by variable message signs. If conditions worsen, the system can lower the limit to 90, 80 or 70 km/h. Speeds may change during the day as conditions shift.

Electronic signs have the same legal force as standard signs, and drivers must obey the posted limits. If a variable message sign displays no information, the maximum speed outside built-up areas is 90 km/h. Drivers should still choose a speed appropriate to the weather and road conditions.
