Tallinn rock trio Kuul says its unusual guitar style helps the band sound like a five-piece act on stage, ERR reported in an interview on the morning programme Terevisioon.
Vocalist and guitarist Ott Uude said the band chose the name Kuul because it could have several meanings, including a bullet or the moon. The group wanted a simple Estonian name that was easy to pronounce, he said.
Uude plays without a pick, using his fingers, and tunes his guitar so he can play melody and rhythm at the same time. Drummer Janek Koldekivi joked that Uude’s singing helps keep him from playing guitar constantly. The band describes its music as Estonian-language pop rock.
Kuul performs original material, most of it written by Uude. He said ideas often begin with a melody or something from his own life, which he records as a quick phone demo before the band develops it in rehearsal.
The trio recently released a song called “Elu,” about life experiences and lessons.
