Photographer Asko Künnap’s exhibition “Fenster im Fenster” is on display at the Palm House of Tallinn Botanical Garden, ERR reports. It features six winged altarpieces made from photo series that bring together different cities, travel impressions, fleeting moments and reflections.

The black-and-white works focus on reflections, unexpected perspectives and places and moments set side by side. Künnap said he often finds time to wander and take photographs while travelling, including on work trips, and is increasingly shooting in black and white.

“I suppose I’m trying to be a poor man’s Corbijn, taking pictures with a Leica,” he said.

The exhibition’s idea took shape in Dresden, where the Estonian National Museum of Art and the Dresden State Art Collections opened a joint exhibition called “Spiegel im Spiegel”. Its title refers to Arvo Pärt’s piece of the same name.

Künnap said he selected shadows, reflections, reflections within reflections and windows within windows from his travels. Each photograph has its own story, he said, including one series inspired by a wedding tent on a beach that was destroyed in a storm.

The exhibition will be on view at the Palm House until early November.
