A former member of the Kėdainiai District Municipal Council has repaid €4,981 to the municipality in a case involving allegedly falsified expense claims, LRT reports. A prosecutor has asked a court to conclude the case by issuing a penal order.

Romualdas Gailiūnas is accused of abuse of office, fraud, forgery and handling forged documents. The prosecutor is seeking a €5,000 fine and a four-year ban on holding public rights.

According to the pre-trial investigation, between 2019 and 2023 Gailiūnas allegedly submitted council expense reports that falsely listed fuel costs as related to his duties. Prosecutors say he thereby obtained €4,981 belonging to the Kėdainiai District Municipal Administration.

Prosecutor D. Valkavičius, who oversaw the investigation, told ELTA that Gailiūnas had repaid the money. The request to conclude the case by penal order has been submitted to Kaunas District Court.
