Kickboxing champion Vincas Jošmantas was shot dead during a dispute in Vilnius last week, LRT reported, citing the news outlet Delfi.
Delfi reported that Jošmantas had previously used the surname Danisevičius. He won silver at the 2016 European Kickboxing Championships and became Lithuanian champion in 2017. The outlet identified the suspected shooter as Rolandas Novickas, a former police officer.
Police said a man born in 1981 was shot in the chest with a legally held firearm in the courtyard of an apartment building on Savanorių Avenue at about 6.25pm on Friday. He died at the scene, and the firearm was seized.
The suspect, born in 1973, was detained and later released under precautionary measures: his documents were taken, and he was ordered in writing not to leave the country.
A pre-trial investigation has been opened under the Criminal Code article on murder, which carries a prison sentence of seven to 15 years.
