Former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus’s health is improving, but he remains in hospital for treatment, Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics said Monday, LRT reported.

“The president’s treatment is continuing, and he remains at Santaros Clinics, where he is receiving the necessary medical care,” the hospital said.

The presidential office said last week that Adamkus was admitted to the hospital on September 26 after a sudden health problem. Following examinations and an assessment of his condition, he underwent surgery. The office said the operation went smoothly and his recovery was consistent with the early post-operative period.

BNS reported that Adamkus was also admitted to Santaros Clinics earlier this year for a procedure to restore blood circulation in his legs. He is 99.
