Pope Leo XIV plans surgery to remove lung nodule

Pope Leo XIV will undergo surgery in the coming days to remove a lung nodule found during recent medical checks, ERR reported on Sunday. The 71-year-old pope said it had been detected at a very early stage and was highly localized.

He said doctors considered an operation necessary and that it had been scheduled for the coming days. A Vatican spokesperson said recovery is expected to take a week.

Leo XIV is scheduled to visit Latin America from November 6 to 17. It is not yet known whether the trip will go ahead.
