Several students attacked a third-grader with fists and a belt at Ozolnieki Secondary School, prompting parents to file complaints with public authorities. LSM reported that police are investigating the September 24 incident.

The fight broke out during a long break as pupils were heading to a sports lesson. According to the victim’s father, four pupils from the third and fourth grades attacked his son in front of other students. He said one child punched the boy, another hit him with a belt and at least one held him. The father said he could not clearly explain what the fourth child did.

No adults were present, the father said. Other pupils watched, and some encouraged the attackers instead of seeking help. The boy was taken to hospital that day, where doctors found bruises and scratches. More bruises appeared the following day.

The family contacted the State Police, which confirmed the incident and said it was still establishing what happened. Several parents have also submitted complaints to municipal and state institutions, including asking them to assess the school principal’s actions.

The school has previously come to the attention of municipal and state authorities after parents complained about another aggressive pupil. Parents now say episodes of violence are becoming more frequent and cruel. The principal said the school had followed the required procedures. The Children’s Protection Centre is aware of dozens of cases of violence in schools.
