Strong winds overnight caused no major power outages in Latvia, LSM reported, citing the electricity distribution company Sadales tīkls. At about 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, the company had recorded eight faults, leaving around 220 customers without power.

Gusts on the Kurzeme coast reached 28 metres per second. The company said the first autumn storm had largely passed Latvia by, with four of the eight reported faults in Ventspils Municipality. Crews there had been working since 7 a.m. and expected to repair the damage quickly.

On Friday evening, a wind-felled tree damaged a medium-voltage line in Riga, briefly interrupting electricity for about 1,250 customers in the Mangaļsala neighbourhood.

Sadales tīkls said it would continue working on its normal schedule over the weekend. Residents are urged to stay away from power lines entangled with trees or branches, or with visible breaks, and report dangerous situations to the company at 8404 or the State Fire and Rescue Service at 112. Unreported faults can also be submitted through the company’s website.
