LRT reports that prosecutors have ended a pretrial investigation into the death of a two-year-old in Kaunas in July, finding no evidence of a criminal offence or misdemeanor.

A forensic medical expert concluded that the child died of asphyxia caused by drowning.

Emergency services were called to an apartment in Kaunas late one evening in July after the child was found without signs of life. Paramedics tried to revive the child but were unsuccessful.

The decision to close the investigation can be appealed to a senior prosecutor.
