A Tallinn exhibition opening on October 9 will trace more than 40 years of collaboration between David Bowie and Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita through more than 100 photographs, ERR reports.
The exhibition, “Bowie x Sukita x Poco,” will be shown at PoCo, a pop art museum in Tallinn. Museum founder Linnar Viik told ERR that Bowie was energized by his work with Sukita. He said the musician was drawn to Japanese culture, while Sukita was interested in the West.
Viik said the two repeatedly came together as Bowie went through changes in his artistic identity, with Sukita’s photographs affirming each new persona. Both men admired Andy Warhol and were influential in the development of pop culture and art, he said.
From December, the museum plans special screenings of films featuring Bowie, as well as performances by Estonian musicians inspired by his work.
Bowie, who died in 2016, would have turned 80 this year. Sukita is 88 and remains active as a photographer, taking pictures every day, Viik said. He has sent a video greeting for the exhibition opening.
The exhibition will run until April 25, 2027.
