Artist Marge Monko will serve as artistic director and Cloe Jancis as executive director of Tallinn Photomonth 2027, ERR reports. The international contemporary art biennial will focus on the Baltic states and Finland, aiming to strengthen cultural ties in a geopolitical climate shaped significantly by Russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine.
Monko said she was looking forward to returning to the artistic director role after 15 years. The programme will present work by artists active in the region who are responding to changes in photography brought by digital technology and artificial intelligence, while also offering visual enjoyment, she said.
A satellite programme of exhibitions and events will take place in galleries and art spaces across Tallinn. Jancis said it would complement the main programme with projects focused on camera-based ways of seeing and introduce local and international audiences to a range of artists, venues and creative initiatives.
The ninth Tallinn Photomonth will take place in August and September 2027. The programme and an open call for a public-space exhibition are due to be announced early next year.
