Lilli Luuk to discuss her approach to writing history

Wednesday 7th October 2026 on 14:01 in Estonia

Estonian culture, Lilli Luuk, literature

Writer Lilli Luuk will appear on the cultural programme Kirjandusministri juures on ETV on October 7, ERR reported.

Luuk says writing about history gives her more freedom than it gives a historian. She can depart from established facts and imagine how events might have unfolded, even when evidence and sources do not support her version, she said. She can also explore the same event in several different ways, describing this as her research method.

Luuk made her debut in the literary magazine Looming in 2017. She won the Friedebert Tuglas Short Story Award for “Auk” in 2018 and for “Kolhoosi miss” in 2021. Her debut novel, “Minu venna keha,” placed third in Hea Lugu publishing house’s historical novel competition in 2022. Her second novel, “Ööema,” was published in 2024.

The programme is scheduled to air at 22:40 on October 7. Mart Juur is the host.
