Woman dies in fire at Narva care home
A woman died in a fire at a care home in Narva on Tuesday evening, ERR reported. No other residents were injured.
Emergency services were alerted at 8:51 p.m. to a fire in the care home’s smoking area on Rahu Street. Firefighters found smoke on the second floor and discovered the woman’s body in the smoking area.
Care-home staff had already extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher by the time firefighters arrived. Fire doors and compartments prevented smoke from spreading to rooms where residents were staying, so no evacuation was needed. Firefighters checked the building and found no carbon monoxide. Paramedics examined all residents.
The fire may have been caused by careless smoking. The circumstances are being investigated. A total of 23 people have died in fires in Estonia this year.
