Residents of Liepāja expect the next government to fulfil its campaign promises and improve people’s lives, LSM’s TV Kurzeme reported. Views on Andris Kulbergs, whose United List party won the most support in the 15th Saeima election, ranged from optimism to caution as he emerged as a possible prime minister.

Some residents described Kulbergs as energetic and capable of bringing a fresh perspective. Others said they would wait to see what he achieves, noting that he had not yet done much in a government leadership role.

People interviewed said they wanted more funding for healthcare and education, lower fuel prices and action on other problems. One resident called for most pre-election promises to be kept, with additional money for culture, education and healthcare. Another said the government should address the size of the political administration and give more attention to teachers.

A pensioner said they had few expectations but hoped things would not get worse. They also called for the economy to improve and healthcare to become more accessible, with fewer services requiring payment.
