Madise to propose candidate for Chancellor of Justice

Ülle Madise will propose a candidate for Estonia’s next Chancellor of Justice to parliament after consultations with parliamentary groups in the coming weeks, ERR reported, citing the President’s Office.

President Alar Karis has discussed possible candidates with Madise, who was elected president, the office’s communications chief, Mariann Sudakov, told ERR. Meetings and consultations with parliamentary groups are the next step, she said.

Parliament elected the incumbent Chancellor of Justice, Madise, as president on 2 September. She is due to take office on 12 October.

Postimees has previously reported that Supreme Court judge Oliver Kask could be nominated for the post. Kask told ERR he was honoured to have been mentioned in the media as a candidate to lead such a distinguished institution. He added that it was for the head of state to decide whom to nominate to parliament.
