LSM launches media training programme for 21 young people
Latvia’s public media organisation LSM has begun the first season of its LSM Starts youth training programme, with 21 participants from across the country, LSM reports. A total of 110 young people applied.
The programme combines the former Latvian Radio 5 DJ school and Latvian Television Media Academy. Participants can train in two tracks: Radio DJ and Multimedia.
Both groups will take shared classes, including improvisation with Jānis Kozlovskis, critical thinking with Anete Bērzkalne, speech development with Madara Melne and directing with Zane Gargažina. The training is free and led by professionals from radio, television and digital media.
Fifteen young people have started the Multimedia track, which covers digital content creation, filming, editing, directing, camera work, sound recording, computer graphics, production and project management. Participants will take part in practical assignments, shadow LSM professionals in different newsrooms, develop their ideas into projects and present their own multimedia work at the end of the programme.
LSM board chair Baiba Zūzena said the programme gives young people a professional setting in which to explore media work, try out their skills and learn from industry professionals. She said practical experience can help participants decide which area of media interests them.
