The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will announce this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics at 12:45 on Tuesday, ERR reported. The press conference will also be streamed by Novaator.

Last year’s prize went to US scientists John Clarke, Michel Devoret and John Martinis for a breakthrough discovery showing that the rules of the quantum world also apply to systems large enough to hold in the hand.

Statistics suggest it is taking longer to recognise transformative scientific discoveries with Nobel prizes. During the last decade, laureates in medicine received the award an average of 26 years after publishing their world-changing work.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded since 1901. Since 2023, the prize has been worth 12 million Swedish kronor, or about 1.06 million euros. Laureates also receive a gold medal bearing a Nobel relief and a diploma.
