Isamaa eclipses EKRE with attacks on government, analyst says

Eesti 200, EKRE, Isamaa

Isamaa has built support by tapping into criticism and dissatisfaction, while its aggressive attacks on the government have pushed EKRE into the background, political observer Erik Moora said in an interview with ERR. He said Isamaa would need to offer concrete solutions as the elections draw closer.

Moora said party ratings had remained relatively stable, but could still shift as voters who have not settled on a choice make up their minds. Parties have five months to strengthen their campaigns, he said.

He described Eesti 200 as being in a difficult position. The party initially attracted voters with a promise of freshness and new ideas, but those voters can be quick to become disappointed, especially when reforms take time or controversies arise, Moora said.

ERR reported that 89 people had left Eesti 200 this year, while four had joined. Moora was sceptical that a possible merger with the Greens would substantially improve the party’s prospects, though he said political circumstances could still change before the election.
