The United States has provided Estonia with 13 US-made Skydio X10D unmanned aircraft systems to strengthen border security, ERR reported. An agreement was signed in Tallinn on Monday by US Ambassador Roman Pipko and Veiko Kommusaar, deputy director general of Estonia’s Police and Border Guard Board.

“The equipment handed over demonstrates both the United States’ commitment to Estonia’s security and the expertise our Estonian partners show in their daily work,” Pipko said.

The US Embassy said the portable surveillance drones can be launched quickly. Their daylight and thermal cameras allow officials to monitor hard-to-reach areas during the day and at night.

The handover was funded by the US State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. The programme is implemented by US Customs and Border Protection.
