Estonian design, fashion, trends

Estonian design is in step with global fashion trends this autumn, fashion editor Aljona Eesmaa said on the ERR television programme Terevisioon.

“Autumn fashion is very wearable and practical this time. Everyone can find something already in their wardrobe that is on trend,” said Eesmaa, editor-in-chief of Portail.ee. Checks, corduroy, velvet, layers and soft textures are back, she said.

Brown and other natural colours are in fashion, along with lighter shades. Eesmaa recommended yellow, pale green and white, saying people need not turn to darker colours just yet. Trends in hats include baseball caps, warm mushroom-shaped hats and balaclavas, with different shapes suited to both men and women.

A warm bomber jacket with a higher collar can be worn with either a skirt or trousers. Eesmaa suggested layering a camisole, cardigan, blazer and scarf, and adding accessories such as a triangular scarf tied around the head. Contrasting textures, such as a silk skirt with a soft sweater, can also add playfulness.

She said people should adapt trends to their lifestyles and choose what feels interesting and practical.
