EKA students curate Poco’s new permanent pop art exhibition
Students from the Estonian Academy of Arts are curating a new permanent exhibition at Poco, a pop art museum, bringing together international works, Estonian pop art classics and younger artists, ERR reports.
The exhibition explores digital art, political reflection, street art, links between Estonian and international artists, pop art inspired by comics, and consumerism. Damien Hirst’s new series “The Empresses” features prominently, alongside works by Ai Weiwei, Barbara Kruger, Takashi Murakami, Shepard Fairey, Banksy, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
The curators are master’s students in art history and visual culture at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Poco founder Linnar Viik praised their bold vision and understanding of contemporary international art, saying the new selection and approach would give visitors a different experience.
Only the museum’s second floor is open from October 3 to 8. A photography exhibition by Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita, featuring pop music legend David Bowie, opens at Poco on October 9. The new permanent exhibition will remain open until the end of April 2027.
