Latvia’s United List will first discuss forming the next government with its current coalition partners, co-chair Edgars Tavars told Latvian Television, according to LSM.
The United List received the largest share of support in an election survey, at 35.6%, but Tavars said the priority was to wait for the official results. Parliamentary elections for the 15th Saeima were held across Latvia on October 3.
Tavars said the party would initially approach New Unity and the National Alliance, as well as the Union of Greens and Farmers if it clears the 5% threshold to enter parliament. He added that Andris Kulbergs would present potential partners with specific proposals for what the United List wants to accomplish.
Kulbergs currently leads the government for the United List. Tavars said that if Kulbergs is also tasked with forming and leading the next government, he will face significant work, including strengthening the country’s fiscal capacity and security.
Voter surveys indicate that six political forces could enter the 15th Saeima.
