Vaht and Kukk win Saadjärv pike fishing contest
Edgar Vaht and Allar Kukk won the Saadjärv pike fishing contest with a combined catch measuring 324 centimetres, ERR reported.
More than 120 anglers gathered on Saadjärv on Saturday for the 15th annual spinning competition. A total of 55 boats took part. The contest’s overall result was based on the combined length of each team’s five longest pike, with a minimum length of 52 centimetres for fish to count.
Organiser Mart Toots said the lake is deep, large and clear, making it difficult to fish without knowing the best spots. Fishing took place at a relaxed pace because boats on the lake in the Vooremaa Landscape Protection Area are limited to engines of up to 10 horsepower.
The average catch was about 60 centimetres. Venno Viirsalu caught the longest pike of the day, measuring 80 centimetres.
